Mateo Live at The Roxy – 10/20/11

If you didn’t make it out to The Roxy last night, you missed a great show. I arrived just in time to catch Dawn Richard tear shit up (yes, you DO know that name — Dawn was a member of Danity Kane).

Shortly after, Mateo took the stage.

He performed two of my favorite songs and IT WAS AWESOME. I recorded them on my phone, but the sound is distorted, so I’m not uploading them. But here, listen to the good stuff:

If you ever get a chance to see your favorite artists at a small venue, DO IT. Hell, I’m trying to see as many local shows from my faves, Mateo and John West, before they blow up bigger…because they will.

Shows like this are what make me love being in Los Angeles.

Words of Wisdom Wednesdays #10

Although we live in this age of MP3 players, it’s still a good idea to keep a couple of physical cds in your car.

Your mp3 player may run out of juice on that same day that you forgot to bring its charger. And when you’re 50+ miles away from home. And the only radio stations that pick up signal are in Spanish.

Trust me. Just do it.

I’m a Country Music Fan

I know, I know. I didn’t think it would ever happen, either.

It started because my carpool buddy likes Country and would play it from time to time when it was her turn to drive. Naturally, many of the songs grew on me.

Then, a few of my friends invited me to go with them to the Stagecoach Festival this year in Indio.

Camp out in a RV for the weekend, get some sun, drink lots of beer, AND check out some live music? Why the fuck not?

It was pretty awesome. Saturday was Brad Paisley, Reba, Little Big Town, and Darius Rucker. On Sunday we saw Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Zac Brown Band, Lady Antebellum, and Kid Rock!

Kid Rock is a gatdamned rock star and can put on a fuckin’ show. I definitely want to see him again.

I didn’t take too much footage, but what I did capture from my cell phone is on my Qik page.

I came back to Long Beach a much bigger country music fan. Shit, I’m just a music fan, period.
